MATCH REPORT: Bolton u16s Amazons v Crewe & Nantwich

Jill Rowbotham1 Dec 2025 - 17:26

A great result for the Amazons!

Crewe travelled up the M6 to Bolton for this Northern Girls Network fixture.

With a depleted side of 12 players after two players became unavailable that morning, the match went ahead as 12-a-side on a reduced pitch.

Bolton started the stronger of the two teams and caught the Crewe girls napping, and after just a couple of minutes on the clock Lily P gathered the ball and the Crewe defence fell off the tackles and Lily went over to score her first of two tries. Iona B converted the try with an excellent conversion.

Bolton piled on the pressure and after great continuity play Betty W and Evie E soon added two more tries with Iona managing to convert one. 19-0 to the home side.

Charlotte S added a further try as the Crewe defensive line parted like the Red Sea and Charlotte dived over for her try. An easy conversion for Iona.

Excellent support play by the forwards, in particular Holly T, Sophie R, Evie E and Bridget S meant the backs had plenty of ball.

In the second quarter, after changes were made, Bolton continued to dominate although the Crewe girls never gave up, putting some excellent tackles in.

Two more tries to Bolton with Amelia C and Holly T scoring, Millie P stepped up and converted Holly's try. By now the Bolton backs were throwing the ball around and good play saw Tope O steal the ball from a Crewe player and she ran the length of half the pitch to score. The try was converted by Clarissa H. 44-0.

Just time for Lily's second try of the day going over with several Crewe players hanging off her. Converted by Clarissa. Crewe and Nantwich were rewarded with a try at the end of the second quarter, they never gave up, the try was converted and the final result was 51-7.

The two teams then mixed and matched with each other for the final third, to play a friendly match. The games were played in a good spirit and everyone came off the field smiling.

Captain and vice captain award went to Betty W and Sophie R.
Players player Charlotte S and Lily P.
Coaches player Lily P.
Opposition player Betty W.
