Bolton Rugby have taken the bold but ambitious step to appoint two young people to the Clubs Leadership Team.
Jacob Collinson (pictured), who is currently playing in the Colts, has taken on the role of Chair for the Minis & Juniors Section and will be supported by his Dad Tim, whilst Holly Turner, who plays in the U14’s Amazons Girls team, will become the new Chair of the Women & Girls Section assisted by Mum Jo Turner.
Club Chair, Mark Brocklehurst, explains the strategy behind the new appointments, "The playing membership of both the Minis & Juniors plus Women & Girls sections make up the largest part of Bolton Rugby Club and both are seeing huge year on year growth. What Holly & Jacob lack in leadership experience they more than make up for in passion and a desire to move the club forward. By providing them with a support team that can offer counsel and guidance we can nurture our young leaders who see things through fresh eyes, unshackled by conventional constraints, they are not here to make up numbers. We can expect an ambitious and dynamic future for young people playing rugby at Bolton."
Holly said on her appointment, “I am really looking forward to taking on the role of women and girls chair at Bolton Rugby Club, it means a lot to me to do this at a club I have played at since I was 6 years of age, in the mixed teams, before moving onto my all girls team at U12s. I would hope to be able to discuss the hopes and fears of young girls entering rugby and be a link with the club.
"If I were to think about what I would like to achieve whilst in this role, it would be to see more girls in the u6-11 teams. Just imagine how good it would be to have all-girls teams at this age. Additionally, I would like to see a full and successful ladies team at Bolton Rugby Club”
Jacob added, “Taking over as chair of Minis and Juniors is a very proud moment for me after being here since I was 7. I hope to be able to carry on in the great direction the club's going with this section, going from strength to strength.”
Engaging with our young people has never been more important, we have huge competition from other leisure activities and our delivery must stay fresh, relevant and challenging, by having Jacob & Holly feeding into the leadership team Bolton Rugby will be in a much stronger position.
