Training and pre-season matches

The pre-season training at Bolton has been productive. There have been a lot of different players coming down but alas not every session. Everyone who has attended the sessions has made a real effort to train as hard as they can. The sessions have been tough on occasions but good fun. We have been using games to increase players’ fitness. Mike Crouch has added some sprints and agility running. Dave Crouch and Mark Chappelhow have been concentrating on handling, tackling and more recently on team play.

Our pre-season friendlies this year for the First team was against Aldwinians and for the Second/Third team was against Toc H last Saturday.

The first team’s performance was very pleasing, and we won the game quite comfortably (34 -12). This was Niall Murphy’s first game in charge as Captain. The very hot weather made the playing conditions quite difficult for both sides. During the game we scored some excellent individual and team tries. The game showed what improvements are needed but overall it was a good solid display by all who played.

The Second/Third team lost but were let down by a few players on Saturday morning, nevertheless those that turned out put up a good performance and managed to score three tries.

The First team are playing Toc H in the Lancashire Cup next Saturday (Away) and the Firsts, Seconds and Thirds start their league seasons on Saturday 7th September 2019.
