With players missing Bolton gave a creditable performance against quality opposition

Bolton were due to play Wigan but found out they were off playing League, so got a last minute fixture against Sale. We played Sale at the start of the month, so knew what to expect and we needed a full squad. Unfortunately a number of players fell ill overnight so come Sunday we were down to a bare 16.
Last time Sale were 20-nil up within 5 minutes so it was important we got a better start. We held out for 4 minutes when, after a series of rucks, Sale released their super quick full back who shot in. Bolton then compounded this setback - they elected to receive but failed to gather an excellent restart kick and Sale's large centre simply ran in. This time Bolton elected to kick, Jack Good put up a great hanging kick, the chase was good and we kept Sale in their 22. Phase after phase followed, Bolton retaining possession whilst Sale defended superbly, something had to give and after around 5mins Jake Ludwig found prop Evan Dare on the left wing (?) and Evan took the direct approach (and 3 defenders) to go over.
Sale took the kick off, recovered possession and 2 passes later their full back doubled his tally. Bolton again elected to receive, had they learnt from last time? Unfortunately 'No'. they simply did not compete for the ball, eventually conceding a scrum and Sale scored again down the left.
Bolton kicked off and after an even passage of play Sale were awarded an interesting penalty, the Bolton players started doing what Sale had been doing without sanction for the whole match but got pinged. Sale scored (down the left), Bolton elected to receive and Sale scored a brace for the 3rd time in the game. Amazingly Bolton then really buckled down to playing the rugby that they can. The next 10 mins were very even but Bolton kept Sale in their own half, mostly in their own 22 and following a Bolton scrum, Jack released Louie Ramm who went in from 15mtrs. Just before half time, with Bolton again on the attack a wayward pass found the Sale full back, he ran the ball back 80mtrs turning the Bolton defence inside and out - a class try to make the half time score 35-10.
The second half started badly as Bolton conceded 3 quick tries, with the Bolton right again proving porous. Then there was then another very even period of play culminating in Henry Ainscough finishing off under the posts. just when things couldn't get worse they did. Scrum half Jack, had to leave the pitch when he was injured - his own prop stood on him!
With Bolton now down to the bare bones a makeshift halfback pairing and a lot of very tired players Sale ran in 2 more tries - guess which wing? Despite that Bolton did not throw the towel in and were rewarded when Louie scored his second try with a powerful surge down the right wing. Final score 60-20.
Sale are very good team, with a some class players. They are also able to play different styles. Hopefully Bolton will learn from this match, not least to occasionally get a full squad fit!

With changes made Bolton again saw Sale score down the left and just when things couldn't get worse they did
