Hurricane season came to Southport this Sunday with wind aplenty. Southport presented with about 20 players, whilst only 9 Bolton players arrived (eventually after some constructive decision making by various sat navs!!!!!).

We agreed to play 2 games of 8 a side with rolling
substitutions. Once again the opposition consisted mostly of proper
U8's whilst Bolton had almost their smallest team out.

During both games Bolton battled hard against a bigger opposition, the
cold strong wind and some other forces I do not wish to discuss here,
and put up a valiant display.

Most pleasing was the support play in attack, with a team mate nearly always available after tagging.

The running with the ball was also pleasing from every single one of our
players. Of our more experienced players Marcus and Will lead by
example with some fine attacking play and outstanding tagging.

Both scored classy tries, with Marcus producing possibly the play of the day by plucking the ball out of the air on a turnover and scoring
immediately.

George was an inspiration with his enthusiastic running with the ball. Jude produced probably his best alround display so far for Bolton.

Ben was his usual self, our little pocket rocket who proved so hard to tag when with the ball. Jake was outstanding in his direct running and Sam continued to show improvement once more with fine attacking play and resolute defence. Anthony was perhaps the most pleasing performance showing us all what he is capable of.

Special mention must also be made of Anthony's comeback as captain in the second game following an unfortunate piece of running in the first game, Well played fella you showed 'em.

The player of the day was given to James.

One of our quieter players, but today he really stood up to the plate
and gave his all (and probably a bit more!).
His defence was excellent and he always seemed to be there in support of his team mates. Well played, the trophy was thoroughly deserved. As usual the trophy could have gone to any of our players. It was really pleasing to see the effort and commitment put in by the lads who played as a real team.

I would also like to thank all the parents for their support and
encouragement today. Another fine example of Bolton RUFC sportmanship.
