Bolton U15’s unbeaten start to the season came to a shuddering halt in a bruising Home encounter with Heaton Moor.
The visitors, who operate in a division above Bolton brought to Avenue Street a well organised team, augmented by the loan of Bolton winger James Hopkinson, and gave a strong display of passing , well organised and physical Rugby.
From the off, Bolton were under pressure and despite industrious work from the ever reliable trio of Fred Holt Gregson , Oliver Keogh and Ben Price in the middle , Heaton Moor were funnelling the ball wide with ease, creating aces of space for their fast paced backs to roam unhindered and score two converted tries in the first 15 minutes . With this lead in hand, the visitors took control of the game even as Bolton were trying to get back into it with some good aggressive forward play from Sam Atherton and Blake Griffiths . By half time, the match was effectively over as a contest with two further well worked tries one which was effectively a race between Price and his opposite number to touch the ball down in the Bolton end.
After the break full back Mark Glynn foiled a solo breakthrough only for Heaton Moor to follow up and get the ball over for their fifth and final try of the game.
Bolton will need to learn the lessons from this display and try to emulate the organisation shown by this opposition if they are to compete effectively against the better sides in the north west.
