Tries: Hodson, Holt-Gregson

After a close win in the league earlier this season, Bolton under 15’s hosted a friendly with Aldwinians with the visitors keen for payback.

Although missing five regulars, Bolton ranks were buttressed with three new players making their debuts in a hard fought game. Aldwinians have throughout the season grown in size and ability and their recent results have reflected this so they came to Avenue Street full of confidence,

From the off, Aldwinians set out their stall with a fine run from the kick off to score in the first minute and the try was converted. Bolton had no time to regroup before a second try was touched over to give Aldwinians a 12 point lead..

Bolton then stepped up a gear and Mark Glynn, in at Centre from his usual full back position began to click with Leon Hodson and James Hopkinson and It was this combination with quick hands, that fed Captain Fred Holt-Gregson to open Bolton’s scoring on 10 minutes.

It was then Bolton’s turn to score immediately from the restart when the kick found Bolton trymonger Leon Hodson who raced away down the left wing, using his strength to keep three tackles at bay before touching over.

The rest of the half was dominated by Bolton in terms of possession and territory, but loose handling in promising positions led to knock ons and other infringements rather than the points that should have come through a strong period of play in which newcomers Jack Demullet and Lewis Taylor had the chance to shine.

The second half was a more physical encounter and a baptism of fire for the third debutant, Harry Carroll who was in the thick of the fray for the second half. Both parties played their full part in a spirited period of play with all aspects of Rugby on display. Good passing, good rucking and mainly controlled aggression were stewarded by an outstanding refereeing performance from Mr D Gregson.

Despite Bolton efforts, Aldwinians made the very most of the opportunities that came their way and through superior finishing scored 22 points in the second half to put the game beyond hope of a come back. Despite the defeat, the Bolton coaching team will be satisfied with the spirit shown by their side as the cup semi final looms in two weeks.

Final score: Bolton 10 Aldwinians 34
