Match report
Lancashire Challenge Cup
Division 2
Round 1
Eccles U16 37 Bolton U16 7
It was a bad day at the office for Bolton U16’s as they opened their season with a sound defeat away at local rivals Eccles.
The final scoreline belies the fact that the opening 20 minutes was a tight affair with Bolton soaking up pressure at the back and challenging for the line themselves. Captain Fed Holt Gregson marshalled the pack well and Josh Moore standing in at number 10 demonstrated his versatility . 22 minutes in, Eccles scored and this began a charge before half time which the visitors struggled to contain and leaving Bolton 21 points behind at the break.
The second half was more of the same with Eccles taking the opportunities presented to them, with Bolton struggling to retain possession at the breakdown. The highlight of the game from a Bolton perspective was when the ball got worked out well to the right where Leo Hope-Barry took the ball at pace and showed his astonishing turn of speed to touch the ball over with ease. Memphis Basnett struck sweetly with the boot to give Bolton a consolation 7 points. Round 2 v Rossendale is next week and Bolton will have work to do on the training pitch ahead of that match.
