A tough morning at West Park

Thanks to the generosity of West Park, the Bolton boys had a run out in a local derby between West Park and Liverpool St Helens

The boys started well playing down a steep slope and tries poured in from strong running from Tom Simpson, Jake Rimmer, and Lewis Picton. After the break Jake Rimmer finished off a strong drive and offload to make it four tries to nil for the Bolton boys. The rest of the game seemed to drift away from Bolton with ill discipline and a lack of desire to keep up momentum bringing West Park back into the game to draw 28 all with the final play of the game.

So on came Liverpool St Helens without a break for the Bolton boys in red and black. Playing up hill against a lively Liverpool St Helens side, Bolton defended well and some amazing running by James Sharples kept the boys on target for the second half playing down hill. Disaster struck with James going down badly injured after becoming isolated in possession. After a lengthy delay the boys were visibly shaken and Liverpool capitalised on this to score two easy tries and start the second half in the ascendancy. Try number three followed form the kick off and the game looked to be dead and buried.

Lewis Picton pulled out all the stops to crash over and pull a try back, followed by a second in the corner for Myles Garth, but this was no walk in the park for the inexperienced team and Liverpool soon played havoc with strong running to come the game out at 33 points to fourteen against the Bolton boys.

A hard lesson learned today, hopefully James will recover from his latest mishap, but a lot of boys have learned that rugby is all about keeping your head and keep the pressure on.
