Burnley have withdrawn from the competition, so whilst Bolton had to play both Sedgley Park and the Rossendale, they only play one match each. Some people might find this strange, in which case they would find the decision of the Sedgley coach to appoint himself as referee for all matches even more baffling.
As for the games Bolton were not at the races against Sedgley, we have only played once this year, we had a number of key players missing and because we abide by the rules we played all our squad - this means some of our newer players actually played and also meant some of our more established players had to play out of position. As for the opposition, who knows? Perhaps we could have asked the ref!
Realistically we were unlikely to win this one but we could have got closer with more consistent refereeing, particularly irritating was the ref allowing Sedgley 'quick penalties' to be taken from anywhere, which accounted for 3 of their tries, whereas when we did it we got pulled.
