We played VoL away at October half term and despite having a load of players missing gained a creditable draw. Roll on 6 months and we play them just as the Easter break kicks in, so with 5 'starters' missing we were always going to be up against it.
Played as 4 x 10 min quarters, it was 8 mins before anyone troubled the scorers and it was VoL who broke the deadlock. They increased the lead 3 mins into qtr 2. Bolton replied 3 minutes later when Louie broke thru' to touchdown. After time had gone but with the ball still in play, a fine passage of play with multiple players involved saw Louie cross for his second. HT 10-10.
With all to play for but with evenly matched sides, VoL sneaked into the lead in qtr 3, Bolton nearly replied but were held up over the line twice and knocked on over the line once. Going into the last qtr Bolton adjusted the line up and it had the desired effect after 3 minutes when Daniel finished a rolling maul with a touchdown.
The final 6 minutes was nail-biting but superb, with both sides going for the win it was real end to end stuff. Both teams could have won but some inspired last gasp defending saw the match finish all square.
A cracking game, played in an excellent spirit by 2 even matched but determined teams. Man of the match could have gone to any (or all) of the 17 players we used but for his amazing ability to appear from tackles and mauls complete with the ball that the opposition thought they had it goes to Matthew Stephenson.
