Bolton Under 14's draw their third Blacksticks Blue junior challenge game

Blackburn hosted Bolton for this match day 3 of the Blacksticks Blue Junior Challenge game. Blackburn were riding high in the league after securing two wins by opposition teams failing to turn up and play them.
Bolton knew they were in for a tough time against a strong a well drilled unit.
The game kicked off with early Blackburn pressure which meant Bolton were camped in their own 22 for the first 10 minutes.
They managed to ride the storm and keep Blackburn from scoring with good cover tackling in particular Milo Holmes stopped a certain try in the corner driving the player into touch.
A few infringements by the Blackburn players around the ruck area gave Bolton the chance to clear their lines.
Bolton started to get back in the game and for the rest of the first half the game was more or less played in the middle of the pitch with neither side being able to break down the defensive wall.Dan Southworth was always in the thick of it along with Morgan Skeels-Caldwell leading from the front with good driving plays. The ruck area was equally bossed by both teams and after one such ruck from Bolton Ben Turner playing at fly half kicked ahead for Josh Grundy and had the ball been kind on the bounce Josh would have been in but he couldn't gather the ball and knocked it on.Half time arrived with neither team able to break the deadlock. 0 v 0
Changes to the team at half time with Owen Patel coming on for Alex Greenhalgh in the second row.Callum Smyth returning from injury swapped with Harry Dawber in the front row.
Cameron Barker-Allan came on to replace Elvis Majanja on the wing.
Bolton started the second half much stronger and started to dominate the rucks with Cameron Richardson and Matty Moore making an impact in the forwards. This game was never going to be high scoring and it was going to be the team who used initiative to get the required points.
Bolton were gaining in confidence and it seemed Blackburn were starting to tire, but wrong choices of options in attack were allowing the Blackburn fortress defence to stop them.James Evans playing at full back(Player of the match) was strong in defence and was not frightened to take on the Blackburn forwards. His hands were safe in defence and he controlled the back three well.
With 8 minutes to go Bolton changed their tactics and attempts to kick for touch in the Blackburn 22 just fell short but they were awarded a kickable penalty. Zak Grundy stepped up who hadn't missed many this season but the ball flew just wide of the posts and that was to be Bolton's last chance of securing a win but it wasn't to be.
Final score 0 v 0.
The Bolton team left the field to rousing applause from parents and spectators. It was a magnificent team performance against a strong Blackburn team. Special praise to Alex Ramwell who stepped in as hooker and didn't put a foot wrong. Also thanks to James McDowell, Thomas Duckworth and Luis Jones who made the long trip to Blackburn and didn't get on the field of play. Thanks for your patience.
