Bolton u14's entertained West Park from St. Helens after their original opposition Ashton cried off due to lack of numbers. west Park arrived with only 14 players so Bolton agreed to lend them a player for the whole match.
West Park started the stronger of the two teams with foraging runs into the Bolton half.
The home side were too quiet by far and good communication was lacking. West Park were a good defensive team and the Bolton backs played with little room to manoeuvre.
West Park opened the scoring with a brilliantly taken try from the centre of the pitch when they off loaded to one of their backs at pace who was unstoppable.
The try was converted and the score 7-0.
Bolton had chances however but handling errors meant they didn't take them. A chip through by Ben Turner was gathered cleanly by Sam Dawson but knocked on over the line.
Bolton were losing 12-0 by half time.
Wholesale changes were made to the team at half time giving the subs a run out and the half time team talk seemed to spur the team on.
Morgan Skeels-Caldwell (captain) led from the front and got his just rewards in the second half with a try. Zak Grundy failed to convert it. The score now 5-12 to West Park.
Further bolton pressure reaped no benefits after good defence from WestPark.
Ben Turner's junking run put Tom Knight-Rigler in touching distance of the West park try line but again handling errors forced a knock on. Final score 5-12
Two well matched teams battling it out in horrible winter conditions.
West Park outplayed Bolton in the defensive role and just deserved to win.
Players of note for Bolton were Tom Crook and Morgan Skeels-Caldwell.
Bolton are going to have to improve their game if they are to overcome Leigh next week in the semi final of the plate competition.
