Bolton Under 14's capped a great season with an impressive win against a strong Eccles team in the BlackSticks Blue Vase final. The first try came from an explosive break from the Cherry and Whites 13 Alex Tonge just held up near the line, but offloaded the ball to the rampaging Brandon Booth who powered over. Early match nerves settled, Bolton started to apply pressure and Number 8 Jack Byrne broke through Eccles defense to outpace even the wingers and add the second try. Bolton Forwards were competing well and allowing Jamie Price and the Bolton backs to create more chances. Keeping possession through the phases Flanker Jordan Griffiths added the third unaswered try. Jos Winstanley converted to give Bolton a 19-0 lead.
Eccles had Bolton's flying winger Joe Brooks well marked after previous games, and responded well coming back at Bolton scoring a try of thier own. The Cherry and Whites were not to be out muscled though and early in the second half from a Eccles scrum, Bolton backs of Jos Winstanley, Jimmy Holland, Alex Tonge, pressed hard forcing a handling error that winger Nat May pounced on to add another try. The final 10 minutes of the match approached and Bolton withstood a withering amount of Eccles pressure even with the huge tackles from Joe Mackey,Charlie May, Joe Mchugh and Darren Robinson Bolton conceded with the last play of the game.
